TASTES OF KOGEI |Soryu-gama (Ceramics (Kyo ware/Kiyomizu ware)|Kyoto)
Soryu-gama is a husband and wife team that combines the traditional techniques of Kyoto’s Kiyomizu ware and Fukuoka’s Koishiwara ware.
The celadon we produce is called “nerikomi seiji,” literally meaning “kneaded celadon.” After pigments are kneaded into the clay, it is glazed, which creates a blue with beautiful depth. During this process, we also use “tobikanna,” a technique characteristic of Koishiwara ware, where bits of clay are shaved away. Glaze fills the indentations, bringing forth an even pattern.
Striving to find unique new possibilities for celadon, we continue to create items that combine beauty and functionality.
